Winter months Tips, and Tricks....

During the winter months, you do not have to be thinking about pastels and summery colors. Rather, now is the time to change things up to match a more drastic style, if you would like to. In any case, the following tips should be kept in mind.
  1. Try oil based moisturizers and protective style foundations instead of lighter foundations used in summer. These will help to protect your skin from drying out and they give you a more substantial look.
  2. Go for color that is more dramatic on the eyes. Try a matte eye shadow for the spring months, or choose winter colors that are darker, like grays and browns rather than pastels.
  3. Blush may be more dramatic tool. Use earth tones instead of soft peaches and pinks for a real statement.
  4. Remember to protect your skin if you are outdoors. Even in the winter months, the sun is glaring down. You need SPF protection.
  5. Go for thicker and more prominent mascara. You can repeat this heavier color with your lips, too. Choose darker colors with more substance to them.
Makeup tips in the winter are designed to help make a statement. It is easy to fade away during the winter months. Avoid that by using more color and more dimensions in that color

Did you know that the way you cleanse and take care of your skin plays a huge part in how your makeup will wear on your skin....Well here are six great tips to acheive the most out of every makeup application!!!!

Having the perfect skin is just as important, if not more, as having that perfect dress or those perfect shoes. So why not invest a little more time in your face like you do for your wardrobe? Here are six steps to getting that perfect skin.
Step 1: Cleanse
Cleanse your face with a gentle, creamy liquid cleanser. Bar soap is not only drying, but it’s not hygienic. The dirt that comes off your hands ends up on your face. Put your liquid cleanser on a ball of cotton and then apply it to your skin. (Your hands just aren’t clean enough!) Make sure you rinse with lukewarm water because hot water can aggravate the skin and inflame capillaries.
Step 2: Tone
In the old days, toner was analogous to harsh. But there are a multitude of toners on the market today that are gentle and formulated to balance the skin. This removes the last traces of your cleanser and restores the pH balance of the skin so it won’t over-secrete or under-secrete oil. For oily or combination skin, you can use a toner that is more astringent. For oily skin, look for ingredients like witch hazel. It’s true they are drying, but oily complexions may need this drying effect.
Step 3: Exfoliate
The purpose of gently exfoliating the skin is to remove the buildup of dead skin cells that causes breakouts. Also, you want to smooth the skin’s surface so your treatment products can be absorbed more evenly. But don’t use exfoliators that are too harsh. Look for very fine abrasives. Scrubs that contain ground-nut shells or apricot pits may irritate the skin because the edges are uneven and can cause microscopic tears. Never use loofahs and buff puffs on your face. Your face is not a floor and should not be scrubbed like one. Over-exfoliating will only result in removing healthy new skin.
Step 4: Steam
Gently steam your face once a week for five to ten minutes as part of your deep-cleansing ritual. Place a handful of chamomile in a pot of water and bring to a boil. Turn the flame off and let the mixture “brew” and cool. When it’s cooled enough so the steam doesn’t burn you, place a towel over your head for a tent-like effect and expose your face to the vapor. However tempting it may be, do not squeeze or pick any blemishes after you have steamed.
Step 5: Revitalize
Facial masks are used to revitalize and tighten the skin. For those with oily skin, clay- based masks are best. Hydrating gel masks or cream masks should be used by those with dry or sensitive skin. If you have combination skin, apply a mud mask only over the T-zone, which is the center of the forehead, nose and chin and the center of cheeks. For a real at-home “spa experience,” soak two cotton balls in rosewater and then apply to eyelids while the mask is drying.
Step 6: Moisturize
Regularly moisturizing your skin is critical to maintaining young and healthy looking skin. Another very important reason to wear a daily moisturizer is for protection against the sun’s damaging rays. Moisturizers should be used every morning and every night for maximum results. (Even oily complexions need some sort of moisturizer. Just make sure you find one that’s non-comedogenic and formulated not to block pores.) Nighttime is the best time to apply repairing treatments such as anti-aging or anti-wrinkle creams. During the day, make sure you use a moisturizer that contains an SPF of at least 15.

winter tips cont....

When it comes to finding beauty products that suit you and the season, it is important to consider your unique skin tone and the specific shades that compliment it. Let's check out some of the very best makeup and beauty products for dark skin tones in the winter season:

Medium Blush

Locating the perfect shade of blush can be difficult for individuals of all complexions. Women with medium to dark skin tones are best complimented by wearing a medium to dark blush throughout the winter season. These shades of blushers create a warm glow on dark skin tones, perfect for the cold months and holiday season.

Earth Tone Eye Liner

Many women make the mistake of wearing black eye liner year round, despite their complexion, hair color and the current season. When the winter months arrive, those with dark skin tones are advised to switch to an earth tone eye liner rather than using black. This helps to create a softer appearance.

Ruby Lip Color

No matter what type of lip color product you prefer to use, one shade is absolutely perfect for dark skin tones during the winter season: ruby. This luscious color is not only romantic, but it allows for a bit of crisp color to be added to otherwise drab and cold months.

Shimmery Pastel Shadows

In order to rock the sexy snow bunny look while complimenting dark complexions, finding the right shade of eye shadow is necessary. Shimmery pastel shadows allow for a touch of winter magic to be added to your overall look while greatly complimenting dark skin tones. Please note: shimmery does not mean glittery.

Nude Lip Liner

Matching lip liner with lip color and skin tone has long been a challenge to many women. Rather than attempting to experiment with liners, purchase a shade that falls somewhere between your desired lip color and your skin tone.

Hot New Winter Looks....

Cold, dry weather is the ultimate beauty nemesis. Skin gets dull and flaky, lips crack and eyes tear, and suddenly your regular makeup routine is no longer working. (Red lipstick on top of cracked lips? EEK!) So check out these winter-specific makeup tips to stay looking dewy and fresh-faced right on through to spring.

Skin Smoother: Most beauty experts are fond of loose mineral foundation if you have visible flakes, but if you can't part with your liquid foundation, add a hydrating, makeup primer underneath to smooth out uneven patches. Most makeup primers are loaded with silicone, which is great for keeping oil in check during the summer, but during the winter you need to add moisture any chance you get, so look for silicone-free formulas. We like Korres Age-Reversing Face Primer Quercetin & Oak and 100% Pure Luminous Primer Vitamins + Antioxidants. If you want the most low-maintenance makeup routine possible, bypass primer/foundation altogether and use a dewy tinted moisturizer with sunscreen instead. Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint SPF 20 is a great one.

Sweet Cheeks: Powder blush has a tendency to sit on top of dry skin, which ends up looking artificial and cakey. Fake a natural (youthful!) flush with a cream blush formula like NYC New York Color Blushable Creme Stick. Simply dab it on the apples of your cheeks and blend out and down.

Lash Love: Frigid air can cause instant tears and runny makeup around your eye area. Because of this skip mascara on your bottom lashes and use Cover Girl LashBlast Length Water Resistant Mascara on the top. (Another benefit of using cream blush is that if you get tear streaks you can easily blend them away.)

Lip Lock: We love lip stains, but they have the tendency to suck the life right out of your pucker. Recently a makeup artist told us about Cover FX MintGlaze FX lip primer, which you can layer underneath any lipstick or stain to hydrate your lips and smooth dry flakes. You can even use it throughout the day on top of your lip color to stay moist.
